Bombay:
Maharashtra on Friday allowed private buses to operate at full capacity ahead of the Diwali holiday and issued a POS to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection.
The state government has ordered private bus owners not to allow maskless passengers to board their vehicles and to keep disinfectants at the entrances of buses with additional masks.
In accordance with the SOPs, a copy of which was viewed by the PTI News Agency, each passenger will be screened with a heat gun prior to boarding and people with fever, cough and cold will not be allowed to travel.
Drivers should ensure that a good social distance is maintained between passengers when boarding and exiting buses, the SOP says.
Buses need to be disinfected at the end of each trip and even reservation desks need to be cleaned and disinfected, it was said.
In accordance with the guidelines, bus licensees will be required to keep appropriate records of the disinfection of their buses.
The state government has also warned those licensed under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, and the Disaster Management Act 2005 for violating the SOP.
Private operators have sought to keep buses running at full capacity, especially after the state government allowed the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to do so.
