Ayush’s ministry said Patanjali can only sell the drug as an immunity booster.

The controversial drug from Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, yoga guru Ramdev, Coronil, which is claimed as a remedy for COVID-19, received a severe blow to the Madras High Court, preventing the company from using the brand ` “ Coronil ”.
Judge CV Karthikeyan made the interim order valid until July 30 on the pleadings of the Chennai-based company Arudra Engineering Private Limited, who claimed that “ Coronil ” is a brand that has belonged to him since 1993.
According to the company that manufactures chemicals and disinfectants to clean heavy machinery and containment units, it registered “ Coronil-213 SPL ” and “ Coronil-92B ” in 1993 and renewed with diligence the brand since then.
“Currently, our trademark rights are valid until 2027,” said the company.
Claiming that its branded products have a global presence, the company said its customers include BHEL and Indian Oil.
To substantiate his claim, the petitioner has produced sales invoices for the products for the past five years.
“The brand adopted by Patanjali for its medicines is clearly identical to the brands registered by the company. Although the products sold by the company are different, the use of identical brands would always amount to a violation of our intellectual property rights”, a declared the company.
“Allowing Patanjali to continue using the brand will directly affect our reputation and the goodwill created on the brand for more than 26 years on international and national markets,” added the petitioner.
After the launch of Cornonil by Patanjali, the Union Ministry of AYUSH had, on July 1, declared that the company could only sell the drug as a reminder of immunity and not as a remedy for COVID-19.
Ramdev had responded to criticism of the effectiveness of Coronil, saying that some people were hurt by the rise of indigenous medicine.
