Madhya Pradesh police have registered and launched a case into an allegedly “uplifted” video of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s former statement on alcohol, and have launched an investigation into the matter, said on Sunday responsible.

Meanwhile, ruling BJP leaders have filed a complaint with the police to demand a lawsuit against Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh, who allegedly shared the video on his Twitter account.

A BJP delegation, headed by former Minister Umashankar Gupta, submitted a memorandum to the crime section of the Bhopal police, seeking a trial against Digvijaya Singh for sharing the “edited” video.

In their complaint to the crime branch, BJP leaders said that Mr. Chouhan had made a statement against the alcohol policy of the then Kamal Nath government on January 12 this year.

This 2.19-minute video was edited and part of nine seconds was shared on Twitter by Mr. Singh to disparage the image of the chief minister, BJP leaders said in the complaint.

They demanded a trial against the top congressional leader and his associates for “conspiracy to slander the image of the CM”.

Gupta said the police assured them of legal action after the investigation.

BJP MP Rameshwar Sharma also shared the screenshot of Digvijaya Singh’s tweet and said the post has now been deleted.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Interior Minister Narottam Mishra said he had ordered officials to take strict legal action against the perpetrators, who distorted the CM’s statement against the liquor mafia.

Congress has yet to respond to this issue.
