Bhopal:

Madhya Pradesh has become the country’s first state to purchase wheat at the support price by purchasing more than one crore of metric tonnes from farmers.

A total of 1,27.67,628 metric tonnes of wheat was purchased by Madhya Pradesh, which accounts for 33% of all wheat purchased in the country. Punjab is the second largest wheat supplier in the country.

A total of 3.86.54,000 metric tonnes of wheat were purchased in the country this year.

Wheat purchases in Madhya Pradesh increased 74% from last year. Last year, a total of 73.69 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased in the state on the support price.

The state government had targeted the purchase of 100 lakh metric tonnes.

The purchase began late this year, April 15, due to circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic and national isolation.

Due to the challenges of the recession and disrupted movements and the lack of time, the number of shopping centers increased to 4,529 this year. Last year, there were 3,545 centers.

To maintain standards of social distancing, text messages were sent to farmers’ cell phones to manage numbers in shopping centers.

The amount of wheat purchases was transferred directly to farmers’ accounts by the state government on average 7 days.

So far, an amount of Rs 20,253 crore has been deposited in the accounts of 14 19,000 farmers.
