Bhopal:

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Wednesday that he will “soon” expand his cabinet by five.

BJP chief sworn in as chief minister on March 23 and expanded his cabinet nearly a month later, April 21, by inducting five ministers, including Congressional rebels Tulsi Silawat and Govind Rajput, considered close to former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. , which is now part of the party.

“The cabinet will be expanded soon,” Chouhan told reporters while responding to a request. However, he did not provide details.

Party sources said Mr. Chouhan had talks with the head of the BJP of Madhya Pradesh VD Sharma and the secretary of the organization of state unity Suhas Bhagat about the expansion of the cabinet during the past two days and forwarded a list of probable cases to central management.

Central management will take the final call, said a source from the BJP.

According to the sources, 22 to 24 new members could find a place in the ministry of Chouhan.

A dozen out of 22 Congress rebels, including four former ministers Prabhuram Choudhary, Imarti Devi, Mahendra Singh Sisodia and Pradyumna Singh Tomar, could be welcomed to the Council of Ministers, they said.

The resignations of these rebel congressmen, considered close to Mr. Scindia, who joined the BJP in March, led to the collapse of Kamal Nath’s government three months ago.

All these rebels then joined the BJP in the footsteps of Mr. Scindia.

Other congressional rebels such as Bisahulal Singh, Aidal Singh Kansana, Hardeep Singh Dangh, Rajyavardhan Singh and Ranveer Jatav are also considered powerful candidates for ministerial posts, the sources said.

Former BJP ministers and top officials, Gopal Bhargava, Bhupendra Singh and Yasodharaje Scindia, among others, should also find their way into cabinet, they said.

After the resignation of 22 rebel congressmen from the Assembly Congress, the party-led government, 15 months old, was reduced to a minority. The development forced Kamal Nath to resign from his post as chief minister on March 20.
