Bhopal:

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday that preference would be given to local youth for government jobs in the state.

He also said his government was preparing a single citizenship database so that citizens of the state did not have to register for each program separately.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan was addressing the state-level Independence Day function after unfurling the national flag at Motilal Nehru Stadium in Bhopal.

“Young people in Madhya Pradesh will be given priority in government jobs. It is our duty to care about young people in our state at a time when employment opportunities are scarce,” he said.

“We will put in place such a mechanism that will guarantee the employment of local youth on the basis of their grade X and XII grades,” added Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The chief minister said the government will work for the skills development of young people in the state.

“For this, a skills development park, worth around Rs 600 crore, is being created in Bhopal with the help of Singapore,” he added.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said 15 lakh of migrant workers from Madhya Pradesh returned to the state during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

“Among them, the 14 lakh work cards of migrant workers were prepared with the aim of providing them with employment near their residence,” he said.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan reiterated that the state government will strongly fight the case in court in favor of increasing the Other Backward Class (OBC) reserve from 14% to 27%.

He said that when he took office as chief minister (March 23 this year), the state only had one lab for COVID-19 testing and lacked other arrangements.

He said the government had been working on a war footing to put in place adequate arrangements against the pandemic.

Members of the cabinet headed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan and senior state government officials were also present at the ceremony. The rally was restricted amid preventative measures against COVID-19.
