KK Sharma, an adviser from Jammu and Kashmir, Lt. Gov. Manoj Sinha, resigned his post on Friday and was appointed state commissioner for elections, an official said.

“KK Sharma resigns from his post as adviser to the lieutenant governor of J&K; appointed state election commissioner,” tweeted government spokesman Rohit Kansal.

Mr. Sharma, a 1983 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer under the Union Territories of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Mizoram (AGMUT), was appointed Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor in November of l ‘last year.

Over the course of his 30-year service career, Mr. Sharma has held various positions, including that of Chief Secretary of Delhi and Goa.

He also served as secretary in the Department of Human Resources Development before his retirement. Mr. Sharma was also an advisor to the administrator of Chandigarh.
