Many Kerala are waiting to return to work in Dubai: Pinarayi Vijayan said in an email to PM

Thiruvananthapuram:

Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday urged the Center to resume flight services to Dubai after the Gulf Nation allowed residents stranded overseas due to the COVID-19 lockout from return to the emirate from June 22.

In a written letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vijayan said that many residents of Kerala, working in countries of the Middle East, including Dubai, were waiting to return to work.

“Many of Kerala are waiting to return to work in Dubai and other parts of the Gulf. In view of this, an instruction could be issued to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to resume flight services to Dubai,” said Mr. Vijayan in an email to PM. Modi.

The CM also informed the Prime Minister of the State’s desire to carry out PCR tests for passengers on request.

Dubai has allowed foreign nationals with a residence visa to return to the country from June 22, while the city will open its doors to tourists from July 7.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and Muslim League leader MK Muneer jointly wrote a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to take steps to bring back expats who wish to return to the state within 30 days using Air India flights, charter flights and ships.

The leaders also sent a letter to the chief minister asking him to withdraw the decision to make the “COVID-free” certificate compulsory for expatriates on the flight to the state.

The leaders of the UDF, in their letter to the Prime Minister, also asked for financial aid to families who lost their loved ones abroad because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
