New Delhi:
Karnataka has again suspended inbound transport from neighboring states to contain the spiraling coronavirus infection in the state. This time, the list has five states instead of the previous four. No flights, trains or other vehicles will be allowed into the state from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the state announced today.
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu reported the highest number of coronavirus cases in India.
On May 18 – days after the closure was announced4 – Karnataka had prohibited the entry of people from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The order came after the Center declared that the movement of passengers will be authorized only with the mutual consent of the States.
But soon after, the Center authorized domestic flights, going beyond the objections of states who wanted a stricter protocol on coronaviruses. Passenger train service is expected to start on a limited basis from June 1.
