DOVER:

Democrat White House candidate Joe Biden criticized Republican President Donald Trump for prematurely celebrating a better-than-expected jobs report on Friday, saying the struggling US economy still faces tough reconstruction.

Biden said the surprising May government report showing the addition of 2.5 million jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic was just the first sign of recovery after a deep and wide recession.

“There is so much more work to be done. So many Americans are still suffering,” said Biden, the former vice president, at Delaware State University, a historically black university in Dover.

The remarks came after the Ministry of Labor said the unemployment rate had dropped to 13.3% from 14.7% in April, suggesting that the economic slowdown may have bottomed out. Non-farm payrolls rose after a record drop of just under $ 20.7 million in April.

Trump, who counted on a rapid economic recovery to increase his chances against Biden in the November 3 elections, quickly took credit at a White House press conference, and said the economy could recover all his jobs lost by next year. .

Biden said that celebrating Trump while so many Americans were still in trouble was a sign of his lack of contact.

“The president, who takes no responsibility for costing millions upon millions of Americans, their jobs deserve no credit when a fraction of them return,” said Biden.

Not everyone benefited from the improvement, Biden noted, as the African American unemployment rate rose slightly.

The report highlighted the challenge Biden faces in shaping its own distinct economic message.

Even though Biden leads Trump nationwide in a head-to-head clash, polls show the president is far more reliable in managing the economy.

Biden, who called for an ambitious package of federal programs to get the country out of the recession, reiterated his commitment to soon release a large-scale stimulus package.
