External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed confidence that India-US ties will develop further under Joe Biden’s administration, noting that he was part of the period when bilateral ties have undergone a radical transformation.
“As vice president, we dealt with him. I happened to be the ambassador during the last phase of the Obama administration. We had known him earlier when he was on the commission. Senate external relations as a leading Democratic member, then as chairman, ”Jaishankar said.
The Minister of External Affairs was speaking in an online discussion hosted by leading think tank Gateway House.
“He (Joe Biden) is really a part of that period when Indo-American relations have undergone a radical transformation, which I reasonably date back to (Bill) Clinton’s visit,” Jaishankar said.
He said US President-elect Joe Biden was “no stranger” to India or to relations between the two countries.
“I am very confident that we will pick up where we left off, we have done it in the last four administrations. I think that will be the case here as well and I also say that because in American politics it doesn It’s not that we take care of the day-to-day administration, we also tend to deal with Congress, ”Jaishankar said.
“American politics, by its nature, has very strong elements of bipartisanship,” he said.
