Gaza City, Palestinian Territories:

Israeli planes attacked Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening, a Palestinian security source told AFP after Israel reported that three rockets had fired into its territory.

The IDF said its planes had attacked “underground infrastructure belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization” in response to rocket fire.

“Earlier this evening, three rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel,” he said in a statement in English.

“In response … attack helicopters and fighter planes targeted Hamas terrorist targets.”

There have been no immediate reports of casualties on either side.

An earlier military statement gave no indication of where the first two rockets landed, but Israeli media said they hit the ground.

The military said the Iron Dome missile defense system had intercepted a third rocket.

There have been no immediate claims of responsibility for the rocket fire from the Hamas-led gang.

The Islamist organization warned Israel in late June that its plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank amounted to a “declaration of war”.

Two rockets were fired the next day at the Jewish state from Gaza, triggering a punitive Israeli air raid on Hamas installations in the Palestinian enclave.

On July 1, Hamas fired a barrage of rockets into the sea to warn Israel not to continue the annexation, sources for the Islamist organization told AFP.

Israel’s proposal to annex its settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley is part of a larger American peace plan released in January.

The proposals provide for the final creation of a Palestinian state over the rest of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

But the plan is far from meeting Palestinian aspirations, with a state on a small territory and without East Jerusalem as its capital.

Hamas and Israel have waged three wars, the latest conflict in 2014 killing 2,251 Palestinians and 74 people on the Israeli side.
