Tehran:

Iranian Revolutionary Guards on Thursday warned the United States of its naval presence in the Gulf as it received 110 new combat ships.

The ships included Ashura-class speedboats, Zolfaghar coastal patrol boats and Taregh submarines, state television reported.

“We are announcing today that wherever the Americans are, we are right next to them, and they will feel our presence even more,” said Guard Guards chief rear admiral Alireza Tangsiri. of a ceremony in southern Iran.

Iran and the United States appear to be on the verge of total confrontation twice in the past year.

The last confrontation between arch-enemies came after the United States accused guards of harassing its ships in the Gulf in mid-April.

“Advancing while staying on the defensive is the nature of our work,” said Guard Commander Major General Hossein Salami.

“But that does not amount to passivity against the enemy,” he added, noting that Iran “will not bow down to any enemy.”

According to Salami, the Guards Navy had been instructed to expand Iran’s naval power until it could adequately defend “territorial independence and integrity, protect naval interests and prosecute and destroy the enemy. “

The decades-old acrimony between the two worsened in 2018 when U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from an agreement that exempted Iran from sanctions in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.

Tensions intensified further in January when an American air strike killed Qasem Soleimani, the main Iranian general who led the foreign branch of the guards, Force Quds.
