Due to COVID-19, this year’s International Yoga Day would be celebrated on digital media platforms

New Delhi:

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s International Yoga Day would be celebrated on digital media platforms and there would be no mass rallies, the government said.

This year’s theme will be “Yoga at Home and Yoga for Families”. People will be able to join the Yoga Day celebrations virtually at 7 a.m. on June 21.

Indian missions abroad are trying to reach the people through digital media as well as through the network of institutions that support yoga, officials said.

The AYUSH ministry had previously planned to hold a big event in Leh which, however, had to be canceled due to the pandemic.

Furthermore, through the video blogging contest “My life – my yoga” launched by the Prime Minister on May 31, the ministry of AYUSH and the ICCR seeks to raise awareness of yoga and inspire people to prepare and become active participants in the observation of the International Yoga Day 2020.

The competition will take place in two stages – the first consisting of an international video blogging competition, in which the winners will be chosen in one country. It will be followed by global winners who will be selected from different countries.

To enter the contest, participants must upload a three-minute video of 3 yogic practices (kriya, asana, pranayama, bandha or mudra), including a short video message / description of how these yogic practices have influenced their lives.

They can do it in any language, said AYUSH secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha.
Applications can be submitted by participants in three categories – youth (men and women under 18), adults (men and women over 18) and yoga professionals, said Mr. Kotecha.

That makes a total of six categories in all. For Indian applicants, prizes worth 1 lakh Rs, 50K and 25K will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in each of the categories.

Indian missions abroad will offer prizes in each country. Globally, cash prizes worth 2,500 USD, 1,500 USD and 1,000 USD, as well as a trophy and a certificate, will be awarded in the first, second and third place.

The video blogging contest will provide us with a huge amount of testimonials that will help us spread the word about yoga and its overall benefits not only in terms of health but also in approaching human life, Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddh, chairman of the Indian Council on Cultural Relations, said.

“It will also highlight the multiple facets of yoga. Yoga is not only a physical activity, it also has to do with physical and emotional health and people will share the benefits they have experienced,” he said. -he declares.

Videos can be uploaded to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag of the #MyLifeMyYogaINDIA contest and the appropriate category hashtag.

Mr. Kotecha further informed that to date, more than 2 Lakh people have downloaded the “ Sanjivani ” mobile application which was launched on May 7 to generate data on the acceptance and use of pleas. and AYUSH measures among the population and its impact on the prevention of COVID-19.
