India has successfully tested the Surface-to-Air Rapid Reaction Missile (QRSAM) system at an integrated test ground in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, the defense ministry said.
He said the missile neutralized an airborne target “with precision and success”. It was the second successful test firing of the missile in the past five days.
The flight test, the second in the series, was carried out today at approximately 3:42 p.m. at the integrated test range, Chandipur, off Odisha. The QRSAM’s successful firing test, with a range of around 30 km, paves the way for its commercial production, officials said.
“The flight test was carried out in the deployment configuration of the weapon system comprising the launcher, a fully automated command and control system, a surveillance system and multi-function radars,” the ministry said.
“The QRSAM weapon system, which can operate on the move, consists of all locally developed subsystems. All test objectives were fully achieved. The launch was carried out in the presence of Indian Army users.” , he said.
Over the past two months, India has tested a number of missiles, including a new version of the BrahMos supersonic surface-to-surface cruise missile and an anti-radiation missile named Rudram-1.
