BS Yediyurappa to have meetings with various Union ministers (dossier)

Days after indicating that an enlargement or cabinet reshuffle was planned, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is due to travel to New Delhi on Wednesday, where he is expected to discuss the matter with the BJP high command.

According to the Chief Minister’s tentative tour schedule, released by his office, Mr. Yediyurappa will depart for New Delhi on a special flight at 11:30 am on November 18 and arrive there at 2:30 pm.

He said the CM was to have meetings with various Union ministers, before leaving for Bangalore at 8:30 p.m. on a special flight.

Although the chief minister’s official itinerary does not mention any further meetings, according to official sources, he is likely to meet with central BJP leaders, including national president JP Nadfda, and discuss the cabinet exercise.

Yediyurappa had recently said that a decision would be made on whether to expand the cabinet or make a reshuffle after his discussion with the central leadership of the BJP. Political activities have intensified within the ruling BJP camp. BJP in the state, after Yediyurappa said on Nov. 10 a cabinet reshuffle was on the cards, shortly after the party won in bypassing two assembly constituencies.

The Chief Minister had declared that he would soon be

traveling to New Delhi to discuss with the central party leadership and gain their approval, while he hinted at a reshuffle by dropping or inducting some ministers.

Expansion or cabinet reshuffle should be a tightrope walk for Mr. Yediyurappa, given that there are many aspirants.

While many of the old guard like eight-time MP Umesh Katti wait for a chance to be inducted into the ministry, Congress-JD (S) rebels like AH Vishwanath, R Shankar and MTB Nagaraj, who have helped the BJP to come to power and are now part MLC, also aspire to slot machines.

According to the agreement, Mr. Yediyurappa will also have to save space for Munirathna, following his victory over Rajarajeshwari Nagar sits in the bypoll, as well as for Pratap Gowda Patil who must win the Maski bypoll which has not yet been announced. .

The cabinet currently has 27 members and seven positions are still vacant.
