India and China are in talks, both diplomatically and militarily, on the current impasse

New Delhi:

Indian and Chinese authorities continue to engage through established military and diplomatic channels to remedy the current situation on the effective line of control, the Indian military announced today.

The statement was made in the midst of a high-level military dialogue planned between the two sides to resolve the current deadlock in eastern Ladakh.

Friday, the two countries had diplomatic talks during which they agreed to manage their “differences” through peaceful discussions while respecting their respective sensitivities and concerns.

During the talks, the two sides also agreed to settle the differences in accordance with the guidance provided by the leaders of two countries, in reference to decisions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping at an informal summit in the Chinese city of Wuhan in 2018.

“The Indian and Chinese authorities continue to engage through established military and diplomatic channels to remedy the current situation in the border areas between India and China,” said the Indian army in a statement.

“At this stage, therefore, any speculative and unsubstantiated reporting on these commitments would not be useful and the media are urged to refrain from such reporting,” he added.

The two armies have already held 12 series of talks between their local commanders and 3 series of discussions at the level of general officers.
