India added a record number of coronavirus cases to just under 25,000 on Sunday.

Coronavirus Live Updates: India has now taken third place in the list of countries most affected by coronavirus. The country recorded more than 6.9 lakh of cases Sunday evening, according to data from state governments, surpassing Russia, which had 6.8 lakh according to the Johns Hopkins University of the United States (JHU). India is now only preceded by Brazil and the United States. Brazil has more than 15 lakh cases and the United States more than 28 lakh.

India added a record number of coronavirus cases on Sunday. In its daily morning update, the Ministry of Health reported just under 25,000 cases and 613 deaths in 24 hours – the largest daily peak since the first case was detected in late January.

The increase, which brought the number of deaths to 19,268, occurred as infections increased in the west and south of the country amid heavy monsoon rains.

Approval of human clinical trials for two Indian-made COVID-19 vaccine candidates – COVAXIN and ZyCov-D – marks the “beginning of the end” of the new coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 1.12 crore people worldwide and left more than 5.3 lakh dead, the government said on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Delhi government asked all health care facilities to perform mandatory rapid antigen detection tests on patients with ILI symptoms, patients admitted with SARI and other high-risk people who visit their establishments.

Telangana reports 1,590 new cases of coronavirus, 7 additional deaths
Telangana recorded 1,590 new cases of COVID-19 and seven new deaths on Sunday, according to the state government director of public health and family welfare.

The number of coronaviruses in the state affected 23,902 including 12,703 cured / discharged and 295 deaths.

Currently, 10,904 COVID-19 patients are treated in various hospitals in the state.

Bengal records highest peak of a day with 895 cases of coronavirus
With 895 cases, West Bengal reported the highest peak of new coronavirus cases in 24 hours. There have been 21 deaths in the past 24 hours. The state capital, Kolkata, also peaked with 244 new cases. The state reported 743 new cases on Saturday. Besides Kolkata, the most affected regions are the north and the south of the district of 24 Parganas – large areas in these two districts are part of the great Kolkata. Learn more here.
