It was decided to intensify the tests to effectively contain COVID-19, said a (representative) order.

New Delhi:

The Delhi government has asked all laboratories and hospitals to work to their full potential and increase the COVID-19 testing capacity to meet the increased demand for sample processing.

In an order made on Sunday, the Secretary of Health, Padmini Singla, also called for the processing of the samples within a maximum of 48 hours.

“It was decided to immediately step up laboratory testing to effectively contain COVID-19 cases in Delhi. There is no upper limit for sending samples to private sector laboratories, provided that they ‘undertake to process them within the prescribed time, that is to say 24 hours (preferably) and maximum within 48 hours “, specifies the order.

He also asked laboratories in the public and private sectors “to work on their full potential and to further increase their testing capacity as a priority in order to meet the increased demand for processing”.

“All of the city’s samples must be collected in strict compliance with the testing strategy issued by the ICMR. No samples to be taken without using the RT PCR application,” added the order.

With an outbreak of COVID-19, Interior Minister Amit Shah announced on Sunday that tests would be doubled in Delhi in the next two days and subsequently tripled.

Announcing a series of measures to control the spread of infection in the national capital after holding a meeting with Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Shah said COVID-19 tests would begin in each office voting in containment areas and a full home health survey will be conducted in hot spots for contact tracing.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded 2,224 new cases of coronavirus in the highest peak of the day, bringing the number to over 41,000 while the death toll stood at 1,327.
