Hundreds of people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a remand center for women in Moscow on Monday, Russian news agencies reported.

“850 people have been evacuated” after a fire broke out in the southeast Moscow prison, the state-run TASS news agency said, citing the Moscow branch of the prison service.

White smoke rose from behind the building of the No.6 Remand Center in footage shown on Ren TV.

No casualties were reported.

The city’s transportation department said roads were closed to allow fire trucks to reach the building.

A spokesperson for the prison service told TASS that the prisoners had been evacuated to another area of ​​the detention center.

The fire broke out on the ground floor around 1:20 p.m. GMT, TASS said, citing the capital’s emergency ministry.

According to some reports, the fire broke out in a bakery. Ren TV reported that old blankets and rags caught fire.
