Seasoned filmmaker Harish Shah, best known for producing Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja’s Mother Jeevan Saathi, died Tuesday after a long battle with throat cancer. He was 76 years old. According to Harish Shah’s brother Vinod Shah, the filmmaker died at 6 a.m. at his home here. “He had been fighting throat cancer for 10 years and passed away this morning,” Vinod Shah told PTI. The producer’s final rites were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium on Tuesday afternoon. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the funeral was attended only by close family members.
After supporting a love drama Meere Jeevan Saathi in 1972 Harish Shah produced films like Kaala Sona (1975), with Feroz Khan and Parveen Babi, and Ram Tere Kitne Naam (1985) with Sanjeev Kumar and Rekha. In 1980, he became director with the main role of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor Dhan Daulat.
Harish Shah also directed the 1988 action drama of Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha Zalzala and film from 1995 Ab Insaaf Hoga, with Rekha and Mithun Chakraborty.
