Livestock were taken to a village in Gujarat after heavy and unrelenting rains in the Saurashtra state region left many areas flooded.

A video shared by the ANI news agency shows animals that appear to be buffaloes swept away by a fast-flowing river that filled the streets of a village in the Rajkot district. At least eight cattle can be seen swept away in the 15-second video.

Saurashtra, of which Rajkot is a member, has been battered by heavy rain since Sunday due to a low pressure area over Kutch and surrounding areas. However, some relief is expected tomorrow, said the weather department, IMD.

“Extremely heavy rain is expected in Jamnagar, Dwarka and Kutch. Very heavy rain will give way to Gir Somnath, Junagarh, Porbandar and Rajkot. Almost all Saurashtra districts will receive heavy rain today. Relief is expected tomorrow”, said the director of the Meteorological Department. Ahmedabad told ANI.

Due to heavy rain in Gujarat, an almost 30-year-old bridge over a river in Junagadh district collapsed, said a local official, adding that no one had been injured. A team from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has also been deployed to the state city of Khambhalia to meet the demands of rain in the region, officials said.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, while the monsoon remains “strong” in parts of Gujarat, moderate rains are expected in parts of Maharashtra, even as the flood situation has improved in Assam, where one person lost life in the flood.

With this, in Assam, the total number of people who lost their lives in this year’s floods and landslides has increased to 62, of which 38 people were killed by the floods and 24 died from landslides. .

According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 3.86 lakh people are affected due to the floods in Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Biswanath, Chirang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara , Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Tinsukia.

National and state disaster response forces and district governments have rescued 128 people in the past 24 hours.

Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan received light to moderate precipitation, while heavy rains hit isolated places in these states. In Delhi, sporadic light rains have kept the mercury under control and more precipitation is likely in the coming days.
