Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and MP Neeraj Shekhar are among eight candidates put forward by the BJP for the Rajya Sabha ballot on November 9 in Uttar Pradesh.
The party also announced Naresh Bansal as its candidate Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand.
Mr. Puri, Mr. Shekhar and Party Secretary General Arun Singh are all sitting MPs who have been re-appointed.
Besides them, Geeta Shakya, Haridwar Dubey, Brijlal, BL Varma and Seema Dwivedi were nominated.
Earlier this month, the Election Commission announced elections for 10 seats for Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand, falling vacant on November 25.
With the BJP with 304 members in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, the election of Rajya Sabha’s 10-seat statehood could prove to be an almost one-sided affair for the party, poll analysts believe.
The eight BJP candidates for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh are likely to win as the party holds a three-quarters majority in the state assembly.
Likewise, the party candidate for Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand is also expected to win.
With these nine possible new members, the BJP tally at Rajya Sabha will increase to 90 in the house of 245 members.
The ten seats of Rajya Sabha of Uttar Pradesh which become vacant are three from the BJP, four from the Samajwadi party, two from the Bahujan Samaj party and one from the Congress.
