Gaya (Bihar):
The decision on the grand alliance (Mahagathbandhan) for the Bihar assembly elections will be taken on July 11, said Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi on Tuesday.
During his interview with the ANI, Mr. Manjhi said that the leadership of the Congress had been informed of the request of the coordinating committee of the grand alliance.
“Congress has said it will sort things out (in the alliance) until July 10. Congress is scheduled to meet on July 8. On July 9, I will also be visiting Patna and discussing the situation with members of our party. It depends on Congress if they manage to meditate, otherwise we will announce our decision on July 11, “Manjhi told ANI.
Commenting on who will be the prime candidate in the elections, Manjhi said: “It will be decided by the coordinating committee of the Grand Alliance.”
Earlier on June 24, leaders of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar held a videoconference meeting for the upcoming elections to the Bihar assembly which are expected to be held in November of this year.
Among those who attended the meeting were KC Venugopal, Ahmed Patel, Madan Mohan Jha of Congress; Manoj Jha of RJD, Upendra Kushwaha of RLSP, Jitan Ram Majhi of HAM and party leader Vikassheel Insaan Mukesh Sahni.
Bihar has 243 electoral districts and the state is expected to go to the polls in November this year.
The BJP is in alliance with JDU and LJP in the state and hopes to return to power in Bihar under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The NDA is in direct competition with a coalition made up of RJD, Congress and leftist parties.
In the 2015 Assembly polls, Nitish Kumar was the chief ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan, the JDU having separated from the NDA. However, in 2017, Nitish returned to the fold of the NDA.
