New Delhi:

President Ram Nath Kovind has entrusted Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel with the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh in the absence of Governor Lal Ji Tandon, who fell ill and was hospitalized, said a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

<< The President of India is pleased to appoint Smt. Anandiben Patel, governor of Uttar Pradesh, to exercise the functions of governor of Madhya Pradesh, in addition to his own functions, in the absence of Shri Lal Ji Tandon, governor of Madhya Pradesh, "the statement said.

Tandon, 85, was admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh on June 11 with respiratory problems, difficulty urinating and fever, reported the PTI news agency. It has been tested negative for COVID-19.

The hospital said on Saturday that Mr. Tandon’s health was improving, but that he was on assisted ventilation.

“There is a continuous improvement in the condition of the governor of Madhya Pradesh, Lal Ji Tandon. He has interacted with family members and colleagues but he is still on assisted ventilation,” said Medanta hospital in a communicated.

“Medanta-Lucknow’s team of medical experts work tirelessly for the best medical treatment,” he added.

Anandiben Patel, former chief minister of Gujarat, was appointed governor of Uttar Pradesh last year. She was the governor of Madhya Pradesh before that.
