Coronavirus case updates: Delhi recorded 2,909 new cases on Monday (representation)

New Delhi:

According to an AFP count last Monday, more than nine million people were infected with the new coronavirus worldwide.

More than half of the 9,000,091 cases are in Europe and the United States: Europe has recorded 2,537,451 and the United States 2,281,903.

The number of cases worldwide has doubled since May 16 and more than a million new cases have been registered in the past seven days. Official figures, however, only reflect a fraction of the actual number, as many countries only test for severe cases.

On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a new warning about the dangers of the coronavirus as France comes back to life by hosting an annual music festival and sending millions of children to school.

“The pandemic continues to accelerate,” said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the Dubai virtual health forum in the United Arab Emirates.

In India, the national capital on Monday registered 2,909 new cases of coronavirus, counting in the city above 62,000, while the number of deaths due to the disease rose to 2,233, authorities said.

From Friday to Sunday, 3,000 or more new cases were reported per day in Delhi, the PTI news agency reported.
