Former lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu was sworn in as comptroller and auditor general on Saturday, Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

Mr. Murmu was sworn in before President Ram Nath Kovind and subscribed to it, he said in a statement.

At a ceremony held in the Ashoka Hall in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mr. Murmu was sworn in as India’s Comptroller and Auditor General, he said.

Mr Murmu, a 1985 IAS officer (retired) cadres from Gujarat, will have a term until November 20, 2024, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

As a constitutional official, the CAG is primarily responsible for auditing the accounts of central and state governments.

CAG reports are tabled in Parliament and state legislatures.
