New Delhi:

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court authorized the request for permission to move 955 foreign nationals who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the Nizamuddin district of Delhi to other places of accommodation.

A division bench of Judge Vipin Sanghi and Judge Rajnish Bhatnagar, while disposing of the petition, declared that all foreign nationals will be transferred from the quarantine centers to nine designated places in the national capital, as suggested by the petitioner.

It should be noted that charges have already been laid against most foreign nationals before a court in Saket in connection with the congregation, which has apparently become the epicenter of the coronavirus.

The court has declared that this order will be read in conjunction with that of the magistrate when and in the future, foreign nationals will apply for bail in these cases.

The Delhi government’s Revenue Department has filed a situation report in court giving its No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the movement of foreign nationals. Likewise, Delhi police and the Union of India have also verbally registered their NOCs for the same reasons.

The Tablighi Jamaat will be responsible for organizing the food and daily needs of foreign nationals and a detailed list of members, transferred to designated places, will be prepared and submitted to the Delhi police. Foreign nationals were ordered not to leave their respective places without being informed.

The center said that none of the foreign nationals were in detention and that assistance to return home had not been requested.

The lead counsel Rebecca John and lawyer Ashima Mandla, who appeared for the petitioner, requested that all foreign nationals who had been tested negative for COVID-19 and who were in quarantine be released and sent to another location. accommodation. The lawyers had offered alternative accommodation.
