Rhea Chakraborty’s neighbor, who accused her of meeting Sushant Singh Rajput a day before her death, did not substantiate her claim to the Central Bureau of Investigation, sources said. The case led to a warning from the CBI. The agency warned her to refrain from disseminating false information, sources said.
Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer said they would ask the central agency to take action against those who made false statements to the media. According to sources, he said they would forward a list of these people to the CBI.
Sushant Rajput was found dead in his apartment on June 14. Mumbai Police said it was a suicide case, which was supported by a team of doctors from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi who reviewed the forensic evidence.
A day before her death, Sushant Singh Rajput had met Rhea Chakraborty, the woman said on television. The CBI team met her while they were at Rhea Chakraborty’s home as part of the investigation. But when they asked her about her claims, she couldn’t substantiate them.
Today, sources said the woman told the CBI that she herself did not see the Rajput suspect drop off Rhea Chakraborty at her home on June 13.
The defamation of Rhea Chakraborty on a section of electronic media and social media has long been reported by the actor and his family.
They blamed the smear campaign for the snowballing of the issue, which led to the involvement of three central agencies in the investigation and subsequent arrest of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty.
While the 28-year-old got bail from the Bombay High Court last week, the judge sternly refuted the Narcotics Control Bureau’s claims.
“We will forward a list of people to CBI who have made false and misrepresentations on television and in the electronic media,” said Satish Manshinde, lawyer for Rhea Chakraborty.
