Washington:
Canadian singer Grimes and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk left fans puzzled earlier this month when they revealed they had named their newborn son X AE A-12.
According to Fox News, the couple were overwhelmed with questions about the pronunciation and meaning of the unconventional nickname, which was finally changed slightly after birth.
In an interview with Bloomberg about her upcoming online art show, the singer revealed that she called her newborn baby “ Little X ”.
The 32-year-old singer unveiled on Instagram the change the couple made to their child’s name last Sunday, as it would not be legally accepted in the state of California.
The crooner “ Oblivion ” told a fan that the couple had instead replaced the number 12 in their name with Roman numerals.
She replied “X AE A-Xii”, without giving more details on the reason behind the change.
One of his supporters replied, “Okay, I just deleted the numbers to comply with California law.” Grimes wrote: “Roman numerals. It looks better tbh.”
Previously, family law attorney David Glass told People magazine that, although the original name is technically legal, California only accepts the use of the 26 letters of the English alphabet for baby names.
Grimes, whose birth name is Claire Boucher, and the technology entrepreneur welcomed their son on May 4.
According to the media, the new mother previously consulted Twitter and explained that the X represents “the unknown variable” and “AE, my elven spelling of Ai (love and / or artificial intelligence)”.
She also shared that part of the name is a tribute to the CIA Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance plane, which has “no weapons, no defenses, just speed. Excellent in combat, but not violent “. As for the “A”, it represents “the Archangel”, which is his “favorite song” and the number “12” represents the Chinese zodiac sign of the rat.
But when the 48-year-old multibillionaire participated in a recent episode of the podcast “ The Joe Rogan Experience ”, he said that X is spoken “like the letter” while “the” AE “” is pronounced like “‘ ash.””
Musk also claimed that it was Grimes who “had mostly found the name”. However, Musk said adding the A-12 was his idea as a nod to the Lockheed A-12.
Musk is said to have five sons from a previous marriage.
