2020 Chandra Grahan will be seen in India on Friday for 3 hours and 18 minutes (performance)

The lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan occurs when the shadow of the earth blocks the sunlight. Chandra Grahan 2020 will be visible worldwide between June 5 and June 6. The 2020 Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan is known as the Strawberry Moon Eclipse

A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, the earth and the moon line up in an almost straight line. The penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible on Friday for 3 hours and 18 minutes. It will start at 11:15 p.m. on June 5 and end at 2:34 a.m. on June 6.

The eclipse will be visible from everywhere on the night side of the earth if the sky is clear. People in Asia, Europe, Australia and Africa can see the Strawberry Moon getting darker during the peak phase of the eclipse.

Here’s what you should do during Chandra Grahan 2020

  • Take a bath before and after the Grahan period
  • Give something in the name of Pitra with donation and charity to the needy
  • One can chant holy mantras, especially pregnant women. The practice is said to decrease the harmful impact of the negative energy caused by the eclipse.
  • In India, pregnant women are advised to stay indoors during the eclipse and not to use knives and sharp objects during Chandra Grahan as this can lead to birthmarks.
  • Add basil leaves (tulsi) to food

Things to avoid during Chandra Grahan 2020

  • Do not eat or cook
  • In India, people also advise not to go out during the grahan or eclipse as it can radiate harmful rays
  • Chandra Grahan is also not considered an auspicious time to perform sacred rituals
