Washington:

Hope Hicks, one of President Donald Trump’s top advisers, has tested positive for the coronavirus and is showing symptoms, a source familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Hicks regularly travels with the president on Air Force One and accompanied him to Cleveland for the presidential debate earlier this week along with other senior officials.

The White House said in a statement that Trump “takes the health and safety of himself and all those who work for him and the American people very seriously” and that he is following the guidelines to minimize the exposure to COVID-19.

Bloomberg News first reported that Hicks had tested positive for the virus.

Hicks returned to the White House earlier this year after a stint in the private sector. She previously served as White House communications director and spokesperson for Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.
