Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Saturday that domestic passenger traffic could reach pre-COVID level by the end of this year.

He said daily domestic traffic reached 1.76 lakh passengers out of 30,000 passengers when civil aviation operations resumed on May 25 after a two-month delay due to the pandemic.

“On May 25, we resumed civil aviation operations and at that time there were about 30,000 passengers. Today I received data that there were 1.76 lakh passengers yesterday. We will be nearing the pre-COVID level during the period. between Diwali and the end of this year, “Puri said.

He also said that a meeting of airlines, India Airport Authority and other stakeholders will be called and to discuss how more flights could be introduced from Chandigarh city.

“We will see to increase the connectivity of Chandigarh within our existing system,” he said.
