The Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh has reported his first death from COVID-19 after the death of a 65-year-old doctor, the officials said on Friday.

Dr Zaheer Alam, a resident of the Jarwal area, was diabetic and a heart patient, they said.

He was admitted to Era Medical College Lucknow on Wednesday where he died a day later, said Dr. Suresh Singh, chief medical officer of health.

The doctor’s residence in Takiya locality in Jarwal has been sealed and samples of his close relatives have been taken for testing, said the CMO.

As of Thursday evening, the number of coronavirus cases in the district was 109, of which 79 were discharged from hospitals after treatment, said Singh.
