Jammu:

Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General Dilbag Singh said on Saturday that the DNA sampling report of three youths killed in an alleged bogus encounter in Shopian district is expected soon and that further action will be taken accordingly.

On July 18, the army claimed that three terrorists were killed in the village of Amshipura, in the heights of Shopian district, in southern Kashmir.

However, the families of Rajouri’s three men identified them as family members and filed a complaint with the police.

Police had taken DNA samples from three families in Rajouri district on August 14 to match them with DNA from three youths killed in Shopian.

“The police investigation and that of the army are proceeding in parallel. We are working in our own way and have taken and sent DNA samples. The report is expected soon,” Singh told reporters in Rajouri district. .

On Friday, the military said it had found “prima facie” evidence that its troops “exceeded” powers under the Special Powers of the Armed Forces Act and had initiated disciplinary proceedings.

Responding to a question about the progress of the police investigation into the Shopian incident, the DGP said further action would be taken after receiving the DNA report.

He said the military has made it clear that appropriate action will be taken against its personnel based on their guilt.
