New Delhi:

Delhi on Tuesday reported 3,947 cases of coronavirus – its largest number on a single day to date. 68 people died in 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 2,301, according to government data. It comes a few days after the national capital has passed Tamil Nadu as the country’s second most affected state.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital reached 66,602. Total recoveries reached 39,313, with 2,711 people recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours. Currently there are 24,988 active cases.

Delhi reported its previous record of 3,137 cases last week when it crossed the 50,000 mark. From Friday to Sunday, 3,000 or more new cases were reported per day in the nation’s capital. On Monday, 2,909 cases were recorded.

Delhi is approaching Mumbai, which has so far reported 68,410 cases. The capital of Maharashtra today reported 824 cases.

About 16,952 coronavirus tests were performed in Delhi in 24 hours.

12,963 people are isolated at home.

The Delhi government on Tuesday objected to the centre’s new guidelines and said people who test positive for coronavirus should not go to a quarantine center for evaluation.

The government has written to Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal requesting a return to the old system, where a government team visited patients at their homes to assess their condition, check their home facilities and decide whether they were to be transferred to a coronavirus care center. or home quarantine is enough.
The quarantine system in Delhi has undergone multiple changes in recent weeks.

While home quarantine was the norm for everyone except for very serious patients, last week, amid an increase in coronavirus cases, the Lieutenant Governor had ordered mandatory institutional quarantine for everyone.

But the Delhi government has stressed that this would mean organizing more than 90,000 hospital beds, which was virtually impossible at the moment. The prescription was then changed, with the Center saying that all coronavirus patients should go to COVID-19 care centers. Only those who have home facilities and do not have other risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or kidney problems can remain in quarantine at home.

The rapid increase in the total number of coronaviruses has posed a serious logistical problem for the Delhi government – the organization of hospital beds for residents and those coming from outside for treatment. He temporarily rented several hotels and transformed them into treatment and isolation facilities.
