BJP Delhi held a “Khat panchayat” at the Kisan Ghat in New Delhi on Sunday

New Delhi:

BJP Delhi held a “Khat panchayat” at Kisan Ghat in New Delhi on Sunday to gain support for the agricultural sector laws recently passed by parliament.

“The three agricultural laws introduced by the Modi government will increase agricultural production and make farmers strong and prosperous,” BJP opposition leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri told the Delhi Assembly.

“We must all together thwart the misleading propaganda of the opposition parties and their negative intentions and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” he said.

President Ram Nath Kovind last month gave his assent to the three agricultural bills passed by parliament, which sparked protests in various states, particularly in Punjab and Haryana.

Bidhuri also accused Congress of acquiring land from farmers, developing commercial plots on them and earning crores by “looting” the community.

“… Now Congress has problems when the Modi government is working in the interests of farmers,” he said.

The BJP leader also trained guns at the ruling AAP in Delhi, claiming the party failed to keep promises made to farmers after taking office.

For the first time since independence, the Modi government has passed agricultural laws that will protect farmers and their interests, Delhi BJP Kisan Morcha Chairman Vinod Sehrawat said.

The farmers are aware of their interests and they stand alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaiveer Rana, vice president of BJP Delhi, told Khat panchayat.

Opposition parties criticized the way the bills were passed in parliament and also attacked the Center over the issue of the minimum support price.

The bills in question are the Agricultural Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020; the Agreement on Price Insurance and Agricultural Services of Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Bill, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020.
