Agra:
DRDO has developed the heavy drop system P7 which is capable of dropping military stores up to 7 tonnes in weight compared to IL 76 aircraft.
This system is entirely native and manufactured by L&T which manufactures the platform system, parachutes manufactured by Ordnance Factory, said DRDO.
This system was implemented as part of the Make in India program.
“As part of a mandatory requirement before granting Bulk Production Authorization (BPC), a joint team from the Indian Army, IAF and ADRDE conducted validation tests at Agra today, on two systems, which were dropped from IL76 ac at an altitude of 600 meters at 280 kmph speed. The store landed safely using a group of five large parachutes (750 m² each), “according to a DRDO press release.
The system would be a force multiplier for the armed forces, while enabling the rapid delivery of combat reserves to remote inaccessible areas.
“The system was manufactured using 100% native ferrous / non-ferrous materials. Technical textiles for parachutes were developed with the latest combination of fluorocarbon and silicon treatment to provide water / water resistance oil and better abrasion resistance, “the statement said.
