Lalji Tandon, the governor of Madhya Pradesh and a former leader, died in a hospital Tuesday. He was 85 years old. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, other Union Cabinet ministers and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed their condolences on the death of Lalji Tandon.
President Ram Nath Kovind mourned the death of Lalji Tandon and called him a “legendary leader”.
Upon the death of Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Lal Ji Tandon, we lost a legendary leader who combined the cultural sophistication of Lucknow with the insight of a national pillar. I deeply mourn his death. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter: “Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his tireless efforts in the service of society. He played a key role in strengthening BJP in Uttar Pradesh. noticed as an effective administrator, always giving importance to the public Prime Minister Modi recalled that Lalji Tandon was an expert in constitutional matters and had a close relationship with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said: “Lalji Tandon’s death was a personal loss” for him and will always be remembered for his contribution to the progress of the nation. “Mr. Chouhan added that Lalji Tandon has always “guided” him for a long time The Chief Minister will go to Lucknow to attend the last rites of Lalji Tandon.
“My deepest condolences on the death of Lalji Tandon, Governor of Madhya Pradesh. May God give strength to the bereaved family,” tweeted Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior leader of the BJP.
Other senior BJP leaders and ministers posted messages of condolence on social media.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed sorrow over Lalji Tandon’s death. The UP government has announced a three-day mourning as a sign of respect for Lalji Tandon, who has had a decades-long political career in Uttar Pradesh. He succeeded as governor of Madhya Pradesh on July 29, 2019.

The final rites of Lalji Tandon will be performed at the Gulala Ghat in Lucknow at 4.30pm today.
