CrossFit Inc founder Greg Glassman steps down as CEO

CrossFit Inc. founder Greg Glassman stepped down as chief executive on Tuesday, days after he apologized for his tweet about killing an unarmed black man while he was criticizing and led shoe brand Reebok to end its link with the fitness program.

His resignation comes at a time when sensitivity to the problems faced by people of color took center stage in the United States, with protests across the country after the murder of George Floyd on May 25.

“I am resigning as CEO of CrossFit Inc, and have decided to retire. On Saturday, I created a loophole in the CrossFit community and unintentionally injured many of its members,” he said. in a statement from the company that appointed Dave Castro as its new CEO.

In response to a tweet from the research firm Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation which classified racism and discrimination among public health problems, Glassman published Saturday “It’s FLOYD-19”.

The tweet, which equated the police murder to Floyd with the COVID-19 pandemic, caught the eye and led to Glassman’s apologies after Adidas AG-owned Reebok ended its 10-year partnership with his company.
