PM said vulnerable groups should be identified and prioritized

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reviewed India’s preparations to vaccinate its large population against COVID-19 once a vaccine is available and said that vaccination should be affordable and universal.

PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review planning and preparations for vaccination against the new coronavirus.

At the meeting, the current state of vaccine development efforts was also reviewed and the Prime Minister stressed India’s commitment to play an enabling role in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, said Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement.

Prime Minister Modi noted that the vaccination of the vast and diverse Indian population will have to take into account the problems, including those related to the management of medical supply chains, the prioritization of populations at risk, the coordination between the various agencies. involved in the process, as well as the role of the private sector and civil society, he said.

The Prime Minister has set out four guiding principles that will form the basis of this national effort, said the PMO.

He said vulnerable groups should be identified and prioritized for early vaccination, for example doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, non-medical frontline COVID-19 warriors and vulnerable people in the general population.

Another guiding principle stated by the Prime Minister was that “anyone, anywhere” vaccination should take place without placing any home restrictions on the vaccine.

The third principle stated by the Prime Minister is that vaccination must be affordable and universal and no one should be left behind, according to the PMO.

According to the fourth principle, the whole process, from production to vaccination, must be monitored and supported in real time through the use of technology.

Prime Minister Modi has ordered officials to broadly assess the technological options available that can be the backbone of the national effort to vaccinate everyone in the most effective and rapid manner.

The Prime Minister ordered that detailed planning for this large-scale vaccination be undertaken immediately.
