The number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal has crossed the 20,000 mark as the state reported its highest peak of 669 new infections on Friday, according to a bulletin published by the Ministry of Health.
The new cases have pushed the number of viruses to 20,488 in the state, he added.
The state also reported the highest number of deaths in a single day at age 18, bringing the number of deaths to 717, according to the bulletin.
There are currently 6,200 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.
Since Thursday, 534 people have been released from various state hospitals after recovering from the infection.
In the past 24 hours, a record 11,053 samples have been tested for COVID-19, the release said.
