New Delhi:
The COVID-19 pandemic in India shows a downward trend, with the exception of two to three states, the government said on Tuesday, noting that it is “particularly noteworthy” vis-à-vis some countries in the world. ‘northern hemisphere where a sharp increase in we see the intensity of the spread of the virus.
The pandemic situation around the world is of particular concern and it has been found that countries with much higher economic capacity and per capita income, and with good healthcare systems, may succumb to a huge second peak, the chairman of the National COVID-19 Task Force, VK Paul, said at a press conference.
“It has to be a lesson for all of us,” said Mr. Paul, who is also a member of NITI Aayog for Health.
“We are very fortunate that our trend is in the opposite direction. We are fortunate that today we are showing a decline in the pandemic (COVID-19), except in two or three states. This decline is particularly noticeable because in other countries in the northern hemisphere there is a sharp increase in the intensity of the pandemic, ”he said.
The pandemic, largely in the northern hemisphere, has hit several countries again. The third peak came in the United States, Paul said, adding that “becoming a bit lax .. slowing surveillance, containment strategies must also play a role.”
He said Kerala, West Bengal and Delhi are heading for a third summit.
This is a matter of concern and there can be no complacency in following the “appropriate behavior” of COVID-19 in the times to come, as other challenges will emerge, Paul said.
More festivals are coming and “wherever we have failed in the last few days it will happen in 10 to 12 days,” he said.
Minister of Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said it has been observed that states and Union territories such as Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi have reported an increase in cases during the festival season.
“It is mandatory for all of us to follow appropriate COVID-19 behavior during the festival season,” he said.
A continued decline in the average daily number of new coronavirus cases has been observed, and the figure fell from 83,232 between September 23 and 29 to 49,909 for October 21 and 27, Bhushan said.
The case fatality rate of COVID-19 in India has fallen from 1.77% on September 1 to 1.50% so far. India’s COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped from 76.94% on September 1 to 90.62% as at date, ”he said.
Bhushan also said that 49.4% of new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours were reported in five states and union territories, namely Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi.
Fifty-eight percent of new deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours have been reported in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, he said.
