Geneva:

Some countries have seen “increases” in COVID-19 as the blockages decrease, and people must protect themselves from the coronavirus while authorities continue testing, the World Health Organization said on Friday ( WHO).

The epicenter of the pandemic is currently found in the countries of Central America, South and North America, especially the United States, said WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris.

“On the increases (in the cases), yes, we have seen it in countries all over the world – I am not talking specifically about Europe – when the closures are relaxed, when the social distancing measures are relaxed, the people sometimes interpret this as “OK, it’s over,” said Harris at a United Nations briefing in Geneva.

“It is not over. It is not over until there are no more viruses anywhere in the world,” she said.

Harris, referring to American protests since the murder of George Floyd 10 days ago, said protesters should take precautions. “We have certainly seen a lot of passion this week, we have seen people who felt the need to go out and express their feelings,” she added. “We ask them to remember to always protect you and others.”

To avoid infection, WHO has advised people to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet), to wash their hands frequently and to avoid touching their mouth, nose and eyes, a said Harris.
