Geneva:

The raging coronavirus pandemic has the potential to worsen if all nations fail to follow basic health precautions, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday.

“Let me be frank, too many countries are going in the wrong direction, the virus remains the number one public enemy,” said director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a virtual briefing from WHO headquarters in Geneva.

“If the basic principles are not respected, the only way this pandemic will go is that it will get worse and worse. But it should not be so.”

Infections surpassed 13 million worldwide on Monday, according to a Reuters count, climbing to a million in just five days in a pandemic that has killed more than half a million people.
