Coronavirus: the number of COVID-19 cases in India has increased

New Delhi:

India has reported more than three lakh cases of the highly infectious disease COVID-19 caused by the coronavirus. The number of cases has increased by 2,903 today to reach 3,004,338. Maharashtra has the highest cases in India with 97,648, followed by Tamil Nadu with 40,698 and Delhi with 34,687.

India has the fourth highest number of coronavirus cases among the 10 countries most affected by coronavirus, for which no vaccine has yet been developed.

The death toll rose to 8,498, with a record day-long peak of 396 deaths.

Coronavirus cases continue to increase across the country, days after the center announced a new lockout period as part of its “Unlock1” plan, which eased phased restrictions by allowing flights to resume, stores to reopen and offices to operate, among other measures, by following strict security rules and social distancing practices.

The country’s recovery rate in India – the number of patients who have successfully battled viral disease – stood at 49.47% this morning. 1,47,195 people have recovered, the Ministry of Health said. The number of recoveries is greater than the number of active cases for the second consecutive day.
