A hundred patients escaped from a COVID health center in the Kamrup district of Assam and blocked the national highway 31 on Thursday, alleging that they had not received adequate food and water, said responsible.
Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kailash Kartik and the police rushed into Changsari Institution and asked the patients to clear the road and return to the center so that the problem could be resolved through discussions, they stated.
However, tensions prevailed in the region after the patients returned to the center, said an officer.
The patients alleged that they had not been supplied with water and food and that the condition of the beds was not up to standard while 10 to 12 of them were kept in one room.
The deputy commissioner assured them that their allegations will be investigated and that efforts will be made to address them, the officer said.
The health and well-being of the Himanta Biswa Sarma family said that if patients were not satisfied with the COVID health center, they could opt for home quarantine.
“We brought them to the establishment so that they can be cured and not infect others. If they are not satisfied, they can sign the commitment and go into quarantine at home,” he said. said at a press conference.
Health workers are on duty 24 hours a day and there may have been some delay as they are overworked, he said.
“In other states, even the tests are carried out against payment but in Assam, all expenses – tests for their stay and food – are borne by the state government,” added Sarma.
