New Delhi:

Congressman Rahul Gandhi’s tweet questioning the government about the Chinese aggression is accompanied by a photo taken by his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from Lake Pangong Tso in Ladakh.

“We are united against Chinese aggression. Has China occupied Indian territory?” Rahul Gandhi tweeted in Hindi with the photo, captioned “Photo credit: Rajiv Gandhi”. Pangong Tso, a glacial lake at 14,000 feet on the Tibetan plateau, is among the points close to the actual control line or LAC – the de facto border dividing India and China – where Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed on last month.

Congressman posts daily – often more than once a day – tweets targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government on the border crisis with China, particularly since the June 15 brawl in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the line of conduct.

For the past three days, Gandhi has focused on Prime Minister Modi’s comments during a multi-stakeholder meeting on Friday. “No one is on our territory and none of our posts have been captured,” the Prime Minister said during the meeting.

Congress seized the statement and wondered if the Prime Minister meant that Indian territory had been ceded to China. The Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday that an attempt was underway to give a “malicious interpretation” to Prime Minister Modi’s words.

“The Prime Minister’s comments that there was no Chinese presence on our side of the BAC concerned the situation because of the bravery of our armed forces. The sacrifices of soldiers from the 16th Bihar Regiment thwarted the attempt to Chinese side to erect that day, “said the government.

On Sunday, Mr. Gandhi joked, publishing an article in a foreign publication: “Narendra Modi is in fact Surender Modi”.

Congressman tweeted yesterday: “Why did China praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi during this conflict?” He published a report by Chinese spokesman Global Times on the Prime Minister’s words.
