Congressman and son of former finance minister Karti P Chidambaram has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The parliamentarian confirmed his state of health in a tweet and asked all those who came into contact with him to “follow the medical protocol” of screening and isolation.
“I just tested positive for #Covid. My symptoms are mild and according to medical advice I am in home quarantine. I urge anyone who has recently come into contact with me to follow medical protocol.” , said the 48-year-old. said.
To date, the country has recorded more than 18 lakh cases of coronavirus – adding more than 1.5 lakh patients to the tally in just three days.
The pandemic claimed the life of a minister in Uttar Pradesh. Kamal Rani Varun, 62, died at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow on Sunday.
The virus has also infected many central and state government ministers, including Home Secretary Amit Shah, who recently attended a Union cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Madhya Pradesh government has banned political rallies, agitations and public meetings until August 14 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among politicians and their supporters. All of Madhya Pradesh’s political parties have campaigned for the 24-seat bypolls – likely to be held later this year – the results of which may have major implications for state politics. The move came after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his three ministers tested positive for the deadly virus.
Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit also tested positive for the coronavirus today, said Kauvery Hospital in Chennai, where he was admitted. It is asymptomatic and clinically stable, the hospital said.
