Congress has worked for development, said party chairman (Representative)

Jaipur:

The prestige of Congress and the BJP is at stake as six municipal corporations in the three cities of Rajasthan will go to the polls today.

As the ruling Congress contemplates returning to power in the urban bodies, building on the confidence that voters are happy with the performance of state government, the BJP faces the challenge of maintaining its dominance.

Over 35.97 lakh voters will elect 560 ward councilors in two phases in the six newly formed municipal corporations of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota (Jaipur Heritage, Jaipur Greater, Jodhpur North, Jodhpur South, Kota North and Kota South).

The first phase of the ballot will take place today in the municipal corporations Jaipur Heritage, Jodhpur North and Kota North, where more than 16.54 lakh voters will vote to elect 250 district councilors.

The second phase of the ballot will take place on November 1 and the votes will be counted on November 3.

In the latest polls, the BJP had formed its board of directors in the three local bodies, which grew to six corporate zones after a demarcation exercise conducted by the congressional government in the state.

Business polls are seen as a battle of prestige for many Union and state ministers, including Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Jodhpur is the hometown of Ashok Gehlot and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also belongs to the city.

Kota is the hometown of Lok Sabha President Om Birla, as well as Minister of State Shanti Dhariwal.

The prestige of the Chief Congress Whip in the Assembly, Mahesh Joshi, and Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas is at stake in Jaipur, as well as that of BJP President Satish Poonia.

All three towns are known to be the strongholds of the BJP. In the last election, the BJP had formed its boards of directors in the three cities and it hopes to repeat the feat. According to Mr. Poonia, Congress has not kept its promises made in the run-up to the 2018 elections to the National Assembly.

“Development work has stalled so frustrated and troubled voters are ready to teach Congress a lesson in this election. I am convinced that the people made the decision to secure the departure of Congress from the state, starting with the polls of the organs, “said the BJP chief.

State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra expressed confidence that voters in the three cities will give their approval to the party on the basis of the work done by it.

Congress has worked for development, whether in business areas or in cities, he told PTI news agency, adding that people were satisfied with the historic work of the government of the United States. State during his nearly two-year tenure, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

“People are convinced that Congress is doing a good job bringing everyone in. They will surely join Congress and the party will form the boards of directors,” Dotasara said.

Mahesh Joshi, who oversees the management of congressional elections at Jaipur Heritage Company, also hopes voters will join the ruling party.

“Excellent development plans, excellent management during the coronavirus pandemic and attempts by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to live up to the aspirations of the people … The boards of directors will be formed by Congress,” said he declared.

The Rashtriya Loktantric Party (RLP), a constituent of the NDA led by the BJP at the Center, is alone challenging the polls of the civic body.
